This will give you a visual reference for the fret numbers all the way up and down your fretboard and help you a lot when it comes to position shifts and finding the right frets for your fingers in general. You place them on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th fret. To fix this what I recommend you do is cut out some small squares of masking tape and attach them along the top of the neck of your guitar as you can see demonstrated to the right here.
This can make playing many of the Spanish guitar pieces you’ll find on this site harder since you’ll find yourself always struggling to count up frets when you need to play further up the neck. They don’t have any inlay dots on either the fretboard or along the top of the neck to help you quickly locate fret numbers.
Most nylon string guitars in the lower price bracket are like this example to the left.
